Fathom

Overview

Fathom is an AI notetaker that lets people stay present in meetings instead of typing notes. It records and transcribes calls across Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams, then generates instant summaries and auto-detected action items — now available bot-free. "Ask Fathom" turns every past conversation into a searchable knowledge base, and outcomes sync straight into the tools teams already run on: Slack, Salesforce, HubSpot, Notion, and Asana. The product spans a Ruby on Rails web application, cross-platform Electron extensions, Go microservices that handle real-time video and audio streaming, and a dedicated Swift service. On average it saves users 38+ minutes per meeting and 6+ hours a week on follow-up, while meeting enterprise-grade compliance (SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, HIPAA) with SSO/SCIM, a public API, and MCP support.

ARCHITECTURE & APPROACH

Fathom is built as a polyglot system matched to each workload: a Ruby on Rails application serves the web product and account surfaces; Electron packages the capture experience as cross-platform extensions; Go microservices carry the latency-sensitive video and audio streaming pipeline; and a Swift service handles platform-specific capabilities. On top of the capture layer, an AI pipeline transcribes speech, summarizes conversations, and extracts action items, while "Ask Fathom" indexes historical meetings for retrieval. Integration and identity layers push outcomes into CRM, chat, and task tools and satisfy enterprise security (SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA, SSO/SCIM).
