About Bright North Peak
Bright North Peak is a remote-first, globally distributed engineering company based in Yokohama, Japan, helping organizations solve complex business and technology challenges through software engineering, AI, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, automation, and modern system architecture.
As we expand our presence in the U.S. market, we're building long-term relationships with exceptional engineering leaders who enjoy applying their expertise to meaningful engineering challenges.
About the Role
This is a long-term fractional opportunity requiring approximately 5–10 hours per week, with a flexible schedule.
We're looking for an exceptional engineering leader with a proven track record of solving complex engineering and business challenges through deep technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to build trust through technical credibility.
This is not a traditional software engineering role, management consulting position, or sales/pre-sales role.
Rather than focusing on day-to-day implementation, you'll leverage your engineering expertise and judgment to understand complex business and technology challenges, help identify and develop meaningful engineering opportunities, and shape practical engineering strategies during early client discussions.
You'll collaborate closely with an experienced engineering team throughout client engagements, enabling you to focus on engineering leadership, client relationships, and high-value technical discussions while contributing to the successful delivery of complex software, AI, cloud, data, and infrastructure solutions.

- Build trusted relationships with prospective clients through your engineering expertise and technical credibility.
- Understand complex business and technology challenges.
- Apply sound engineering judgment to recommend practical engineering strategies and solution approaches.

Required Qualifications
- Currently serve—or have recently served—in a senior technical leadership role such as Staff Engineer, Senior Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Distinguished Engineer, CTO, VP Engineering, Chief Architect, or an equivalent position.
- At least 10 years of professional engineering experience across software engineering, AI, cloud, data, infrastructure, systems engineering, or related technical disciplines.
- Recent hands-on engineering experience within the past five years.
- A proven track record of successfully leading complex engineering initiatives.
- Deep engineering expertise, combined with strong scientific foundations and/or meaningful industry domain knowledge.
- Sound engineering judgment and strong systems thinking.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or another relevant scientific or technical discipline.
- Native or bilingual English proficiency.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Nice to Have
- Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or technical discipline.
- Publications, patents, conference presentations, technical talks, or university teaching.
- Open-source contributions or other recognized technical achievements.
- Professional certifications relevant to your area of expertise.
Compensation
Competitive compensation with opportunities for long-term growth.
Compensation is generally expected to be in the range of USD $100–$150 per hour, depending on experience, technical expertise, leadership, communication, responsibilities, and overall contribution.
Hiring Process
Our hiring process is designed to be straightforward, conversational, and respectful of your time.
- Initial conversation with our Senior Technical Recruiter
- Discussion with our HR Manager
- Engineering interview with our Engineering Lead

Throughout the process, we're interested not only in your technical expertise, but also in how you approach engineering challenges, communicate with clients, and collaborate with other experienced engineers.
